BTEC National Diploma Music Practice
Length of Course: 2 years
Course Description: This course is designed to develop music skills for performance as well as developing knowledge and experience in music theory and business. Students benefit from expert tuition on a range of musical instruments and have the opportunity to visit the Birmingham NEC and the Pop Factory in Porth for musical events and workshops.
All students are encouraged to form groups and bands, and regularly perform in the Bridgend Recreation Centre and other venues in the local community. Modules include:
- Music Business
- Language of Music
- Recording
- Production
- Performance Techniques
- Midi Sequencing
- Improvisation
- Live Sound and Live Performances
Entry Requirements:
- Available to students with 4 GCSE passes at grade C or above including Music; where Music is not available, other musical qualifications or a strong musical ability at the interview stage will be taken into consideration or
- A related First Diploma or
- Mature students with relevant qualifications and/or experience.
Progression/Career Opportunities:
- The BTEC National Diploma in Music Practice provides a practical alternative to the A Level route, and offers students progression onto HND or Degree courses, or
- Employment within the Music Industry.
Did you know? Two Music Practice students attained triple distinctions in their National Diplomas, the highest grade possible, one is pursing a Degree in Music at the Atrium in Cardiff while the other has deferred entry to Welsh College of Music and Drama.
