WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
Core Units:
The Sound and Music Industry
Listening skills for Musicians
Major Music Project
Planning a Music Project
Music and Society
Plus optional specialised units including:
Music in the Community
Improvising Music
Arranging Music
Music in Practice (classical/pop/modern)
Musical Theatre Performance
Special Subject Investigation
The College is committed to you studying for national qualifications in Maths, English and ICT within your vocational course. This will help you get the most out of your work, education and everyday life.
WHAT ARE MY COMMITMENTS?
You will need to attend classes for approximately 17 hours per week and have a high level of motivation and commitment. In addition you will need to spend 10 - 15 hours per week on coursework at home or in college.
WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE?
The qualification gained is BTEC National Diploma in Music Practice
You will also complete a programme of Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT. These Functional Skills are an essential requirement for employment progression, higher education and other further education courses.

1b127-09 2nd year fees 0 16-18 year olds, 393(23) 19 years and over
Course fees are payable on enrolment. Costs shown in brackets are for those on income-based benefits. Refunds are not normally available.
WHAT ADDITIONAL COSTS ARE THERE?
The course requires learners to undertake some visits and the purchase of additional production materials. Whilst the cost of these may be as much as 150, they are an integral part of the course.
Students will be provided with a 'kit list' of items they will have to purchase.
Students will be expected to take part in practical music lessons and to undergo external exams.
WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?
There is an opportunity to progress onto University studying for a Music related degree or employment related to the vocational option.
