Course Description
This is a two year qualification which specifically focuses on introducing you to the performing arts industry, devising, scriptwriting, directing, acting, musical theatre and a range of performance techniques from classical to contemporary. You will explore a variety of plays, genres and practitioners, as well as performing a range of productions during the Performing Arts Showcase, Musical Theatre Production and Performing Arts Festival. You will also get the opportunity to work with and visit exciting performing arts organisations. Work experience opportunities are available with Skipton's International Puppet Festival, The Mart Theatre, York Dungeons, High Hat Theatre and the college's in-house Murder Mystery Company.
This is a practical, work-related course, you will learn by completing projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations. It will fully prepare you for employment or higher education.

Work placements will occur continuously within college through working on The Performing Arts Showcase and Festival over the two academic years as part of the �nal core assessment. Work experience opportunities may be available to you at theatre venues, local theatre companies/groups and performing arts organisations.
Assessment
The course consists of 18 units and is equivalent to 3 A Levels.Ã, You are assessed throughout the year through a variety of methods from practical workshops/rehearsals, essays, evaluations, research projects and presentations.Ã, There is no end of year ï¬Â�nal assessment.
Trips and Enrichment Activities
A residential trip to London is offered every year. This trip is optional and fees are confirmed each year.Ã, Visits to theatres and theatrical companies, as well as in-house visiting speakers and workshops with touring companies are arranged to enrich the main curriculum

Career progression involves students going onto higher education at colleges or universities to study performing arts, production arts, drama, theatre or acting at a Degree, HND or Foundation Degree. Students have obtained part time, casual or seasonal employment working as actors, entertainers, setting up their own theatre company, working in theatres as arts administrators, front of house or running their own performing arts business.
