About this course

Learners will normally require 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, with Maths, English and Physical Education at GCSE Level.
Learners over 20 years old without formal qualifications will be given every consideration.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
The BTEC National Certificate/diploma in Sport is designed for young adults with a keen interest in physical activity, sport and the theory that underpins it. Group leadership, coaching, academic study and demanding physical activity are all components of the course.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
The course:

Offers education and training for employees in the sport sector

Provides opportunities for employees in the sport sector to achieve a nationally recognised Level 3 vocationally specific qualification

Gives learners the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification to enter employment in the sport sector or to progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel Level 5 BTEC Higher Nationals in Sport or Sport and Exercise Sciences

WHAT ARE MY COMMITMENTS?
Normal commitment would be 16 hours per week with additional academic study. In addition students should prepare themselves for the physical nature of the course.

On completion of the course you will achieve a National Certificate/ Diploma in Sport

Course fees are payable on enrolment. Costs shown in brackets are for those on income-based benefits. Refunds are not normally available.

WHAT ADDITIONAL COSTS ARE THERE?
You will be provided with an SLC sports polo shirt for paractical sessions, but you will be expected to wear appropriate sports clothing and footwear for practical sessions. This includes:

* Trainers
* Shorts / Tracksuit bottoms
* T-shirts / Sweatshirts
* Sports Holdall

Kit costs approximately 100; There may be other costs throughout the year including course related trips (15 - 20 approx) and a residential.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?
You have the opportunity to progress further in the Sports Industry, or into Higher Education. You may wish to go down the Public Service route or progress into the Teaching field.
