Course description
A National Diploma is a practical, work-related course taught in an adult environment and created to meet the rapidly changing needs of the business world. You will learn by working together or individually to complete projects and assignments that are based on workplace situations or simulations, activities and demands. The college will work with students in creating links with industry.
The National Diploma is made up of 18 units. 4 core units include:
• Introduction to Marketing
• Exploring Business Activity
• Effective People, Communication and Information
• Investigating Business Resources
And 14 specialist units which enable you to study particular areas in greater depth. The specialist areas are in:
• Introduction to Accounting
• Introduction to Marketing Research
• Investigating Recruitment and Selection
• Understanding Business Ethics
• Exploring Team Development
• Exploring Creative Product Promotion
• Starting a Small Business
• Aspects of Contract and Business Law
• Aspects of Civil Liability for Business
• Supporting Projects
• Improving Performance in the Workplace
• Understanding Retailing
• Career Development Planning in Business
• Investigating Supply Chain Management.
You will study an integrated business programme and as the course progresses you will complement your diploma with various vocational recognised qualifications as follows:
• OCR Young Enterprise
• Customer Service Certificate
• Sellling Certificate
• Conflict Handling Certificate
• Clait IT Certificate.
Students will have the opportunity to re-sit GCSEs in English and Maths, if required, and will study business communication.

Final award
Edexcel (BTEC) National Diploma in Business. The National Diploma is equivalent to three GCE A Levels. It provides both a broad foundation of business education and a firm basis for specialism in a selected avenue of business activity.

Entry requirements
Joining the programme is subject to a satisfactory interview and having one of the following:
• BTEC First Diploma at Merit Level, or
• Intermediate GNVQ at Merit Level, or
• At least four GCSEs at Grades A* to C, or
• Be 18+ with equivalent qualifications or experience.
