Why should I study CACHE Level 2 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Childcare and Education?
This is a full time one year course which will provide you with a nationally recognised qualification in Child Care and Education. This qualification prepares you to work in a supervised capacity, with children and their families in a variety of settings and environments within the sector of Children's Services.

What will be studied on the course?
The qualification is split into three stages: Award, Certificate and Diploma. It is expected that most people will progress through the Award and Certificate to complete the Diploma.

AWARD
You must achieve Units 1 and 2; 120 guided learning hours to complete

CERTIFICATE
You must achieve Units 1 -5; 300 guided learning hours to complete

DIPLOMA
You must achieve Units 1 - 6, plus one optional unit chosen by your centre from units 7 - 11; 420 guided learning hours to complete. Throughout the qualification you will be expected to participate in professional practice in a variety of settings in order to apply what you have learnt in a practical environment. This will take an additional 390 practical training hours.

When does the course start and how long does it last?
The Course starts in September and lasts for one academic year, ending in July.

What qualifications are needed to do the course?

  • 4 GCSE's at grade D or above (which must include English and Maths or science)
  • A merit (or above) in the Foundation Award in Caring for Children
  • A merit (or above) in BTEC Introductory Diploma in Care

How will the learner be assessed?
Learners will be assessed by written assignments internally marked, multi choice, externally set papers, an externally set case-study, through a portfolio of work and through Practice Evidence Records and Professional Development Profiles

How much will the course cost?
Books and resources are provided in the College Learning Resource Centre, but you may wish to invest in a textbook of your own, as advised by your Course Tutor.

What progression routes are available?
On successful completion of this course learners could progress to:

  • Level 3 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Child Care and Education
  • NVQ Level 2 and 3 (if employed)
  • BTEC National Diploma/Certificate in Care


Or directly into employment as a;

  • Nursery Assistant
  • Pre-school Assistant
  • Creche Assistant

**Work placements will be in schools and nurseries within the county.
