Course Description:
If you wish to begin training in childcare or wish to go on to train as a nursery nurse, or if you are an adult wishing to return to work and lack confidence or basic skills, this course gives you an ideal start.
Course Content:
Seven units, covering:
· Personal Development
· Work Experience
· Human Growth and Development
· Food and Nutrition
· Health and Safety Practices in Home and Group Setting
· Care of Children
· Play Activities
· Orientation to Work Programme.
Attendance both at college and work placements is essential.
Assessment:
Excellent attendance in college and at work placements, continuous assessment,
production of a portfolio and an end of course test.
Next Steps:
Childcare Education CACHE Certificate Level 2 and/or Early Years Care & Education NVQ Level 2, which is a work-based qualification.

Entry Requirements:
This is a Foundation level course, so ideally, you will have achieved grades E or F at GCSE, however, ability at E3 in numeracy and literacy is essential. In addition to this, you must be able to demonstrate that you possess the appropriate personal qualities to work in this sector. Attending a 'Taster Day' is a pre-requisite for admission. Numeracy and literacy assessment, in which you will achieve Entry Level 3, will be undertaken prior to interview. A Criminal Records Bureau check is a requirement for admission onto this course.
