About this course

Ideally you will possess GCSE passes at grade A-C including mathematics and science and a short electrical assessment. Applicants will be considered if they do not possess these grades but subject to interview and their ability to successfully achieve their chosen option. This may require you to study Application of Number at Level 2.

What will I be learning?

You will gain valuable experience learning practical hand skills also some manufacture and installation techniques that will enable you to install basic types of electrical wiring and electrical circuits.

The content of the course includes:
Unit 1 - Working Effectively and Safely in an Electrotechnical Environment.
Unit 2 - Principles of Electrotechnology.
Unit 3 - Application of Health & Safety and Electrical Principles.
Unit 4 - Installation (Building & Structures)

You will study all of the basic knowledge and skills required for a career in the Electrical Industry.

How will I learn?

The course is assessed throughout the year in the classroom and workshop. You will develop a portfolio of written and practical evidence to show your competence. The course is assessed by City & Guilds online multi-choice assessments. There are also practical and written coursework used to assess the skills gained.

What else might I want to know?

Students may also have to achieve Key Skills in Application of Number Level 2, Communication Level 2 and Information Technology Level 1.

The College employs dedicated, well-qualified academic and learning support staff who constantly update their industrial experience. We have industrial standard workshops which are very well resourced.

What can I do afterwards?

On completion you can progress onto the Level 3 Technical Certificate. On securing employed in the Electrical Industry you can undertake the Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechincal.
