Course Description:
The programme aims to provide you with an opportunity to understand the basic principles of Hairdressing and develop your skills within an assisting role in the salon. All full time hairdressing students commence training at Level 1.

List of units within the Certificate in Hairdressing (NVQ): Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health & Safety. Assist with salon reception duties. Contribute to the development of effective working relationships. Shampoo and condition hair. Assist with perming and colouring services. Prepare for hairdressing services and maintain work areas.

All sessions are taught within college salons, which are equipped to professional standard that provide services to the public. You will be continuously assessed through a series of assignments and practical activities. There will be an element of external testing. On successful achievement you will receive a pass certificate. Supplier details and order forms for the uniform will be sent to students as part of the enrolment process.

Assessment and Progression:
All students aged 16-19 will follow a Key Skills/Functional Skills programme of Application of Number, Communication and IT. Assessment will be via a portfolio of evidence and external tests. Progression to Diploma in Hairdressing Level 2 (NVQ) will not be guaranteed without meeting the entry criteria for the course, including a clear disciplinary record and at least 95% attendance.
