Course description
The syllabus is divided into modules, each of which is examined separately. Chemistry is the study of materials and the changes accompanying their interaction. The power of
the chemist lies in exploiting the properties of materials. Equally, it is the responsibility of the chemist to ensure that we use materials safely and for the good of all.
AS/A Level Chemistry gives you a fundamental knowledge of these issues and builds on topics already covered in the GCSE. Social, economic, ethical, environmental, medical
and technological aspects of chemistry are included in the course. Chemistry will provide you with a sound appreciation and basis for further related study.
Chemistry is essentially a practical subject and you will spend a significant amount of time acquiring skills to enable you to carry out experiments and investigations to a high
degree of accuracy and reliability.

A levels are divided into two courses, AS taken in the first year and A2 in the second year; combined together they equal a full A level. Both the AS and A2 courses comprise 2 units. On the whole, A levels are assessed through formal examinations at the end of the AS programme and then again at the end of the A2 programme. In some practically based subjects there is a coursework component. Both AS and A2 qualifications count towards the requirements for university entrance.
*Students aged 16-18 will not be required to pay the full course fee, in most cases your fee will not exceed £150. Please contact us if you need more information regarding fees for full-time courses.
