Is this course for you
If you are interested in working with children, this introductory level course could be for you. Run over one year, the course provides the knowledge of children's growth, development and care. It includes work experience in a child care setting, and will help you to prepare for employment or for further study in child care.

What will you study
The course consists of a range of units covering: Personal Development * Human Growth and Development * Food and Nutrition * Health and Safety Practices in Home and Group Settings * Care of Children * Play and Practical Activities * Orientation to Work Programme.

How will you be assessed
Your work is assessed by a portfolio of assignments, a tutor report, a personal action plan and an externally set 1 hour multiple choice paper in June.

What can you do after course
If you achieve an overall distinction grade at the end of your course you may apply to progress on to study child care at Level 2. You must demonstrate appropriate skills in literacy to be able to work at Level 2. Alternatively if you gain employment, there are worked based training opportunities leading to recognised child care qualifications such as NVQ's.
