About this course
Students should be at least 16 years of age and must be enthusiastic about working with children. They will need a minimum of four GCSEs at grade D (including English) plus Maths at Grade E.

What will I study?

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
This is a Level 2 course, previously known as Certificate in Childcare & Education. You may be required to travel to your placements; however this will be kept to a minimum as much as possible and will make use of public transport links.
How will I be assessed?
This course is assessed by written assignments, one hour multiple choice exam and a short answer exam paper. There will also be continuous assessment at placement by the workplace supervisors, as well as by tutors on placement visits.
What can I do afterwards?
If you achieve a distinction grade, you may choose to continue in full-time education and progress onto a Level 3 course in Childcare or Health & Social Care. Alternatively, on successful completion of this course, you will have a range of career and employment options open to you, for example as a classroom or nursery assistant
Are there any additional costs involved?
The Criminal Records Bureau requires all learners to complete a Disclosure Application Form on commencing the course. Staff at the College will provide guidance for completion of the form. Learners will need to provide evidence of identity, passport, driving licence or birth certificate etc. There will be an initial cost of approximately £70, to cover the CRB check, a text book and a college T-shirt (to be worn on placement).
