Summary:

This course is equivalent to 3 A levels or NVQ Level 3. It offers a 'license to practice' qualification which allows successful students to work unsupervised with children aged 0-8 years in a variety of childcare settings eg playgroup, nursery, school or as a nanny or childminder.

3 days in college plus 2 days in a variety of work placement settings (covering age ranges from 0-8 years)
Entry Requirements:

You should also have either:

A First Diploma CCLD, a First Diploma in Health & Social Care, or a CACHE Certificate in Childcare and Education at Distinction Level

Satisfactory references and a CRB check are required. You will also need to demonstrate interest and enthusiasm for working with children.

Academic Progression:
The National Diploma offers a direct pathway to initial teacher training (ITT) and to many higher education institutions offering degrees in early education, nursing and social work.

With good results on this course you may also progress onto the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies at City College.

Course Content:
The three days a week in college will focus on a variety of taught units on Early Years Education, Health and Safety, Communication and Personal Development.

Work Placement:
800 hours of assessed practice, in a variety of settings, over two years. Two days per week plus some 'block weeks' of work placement is integral to the course and will provide opportunities for you to develop your confidence, self-esteem and practical skills in a range of settings, such a schools, nurseries and children's centres.
