A course of A2 Level standard suitable for students looking for employment as an Early Years practitioner in a wide range of careers with children, or for students looking to proceed to Higher Education.

Qualifications
Edexcel (BTEC) Level 3 National Diploma in Children's Care Learning and Development

Progression Routes
Students may progress onto Higher Education courses including the FdA Children's Care Learning and Development at West Suffolk College or careers in childcare, teaching, nursing, social work or caring for children with special needs.

Modules
All students undertake the following units: Positive Relationships for Children's Care, Learning and Development, Positive Environments for Children's Care, Learning and Development, Promoting Children's Development, Reflecting on and Developing Practice for Children aged 0-8, Safeguarding Children, Promoting Children's Rights, Children's Learning Activities and Play, Research Methodology for Children's Care, Learning and Development, Promoting Healthy Development and Living for Children and their Families, Psychological Perspectives on Children's Behaviour, Supporting Children's Numeracy Skills, Supporting Children's Literacy Skills, Meeting Additional Requirements for Children's Care, Learning and Development, Complementary Therapies for Children, Independent Learning and Professional Practice (800 hours). (There might be slight variations to these units). There is a residential trip in the second year. You will also take Key Skills in Information Technology, Wider Key Skills, Working With Others and Improving Own Learning, First Aid, Basic Food Hygiene, Manual Handling and Health & Safety.

Entry Requirements
You will require either 5 GCSE passes at Grade A* - C including English, Maths and another written subject, which will need to be a science if you intend to go on to teacher training, or an equivalent. Applications from mature students without the above qualifications are very welcome and are considered on their individual circumstances. All applicants are required to bring an academic reference and a personal reference demonstrating practical childcare experience; e.g. voluntary work or work experience from Upper School. All childcare students will be required to have a Criminal Record Check; there will be a charge for this which is non.
