Course Description

The course is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to make an improved contribution to their current or future employing organisation. As such the course emphasises skills development. It is demanding of time, energy and commitment. Tuition is provided by experienced HR Practitioners who are either Chartered Members or Fellows of the CIPD.

The course runs over five semesters requiring the student to attend the Doncaster Business School on either of the following:
  • Tuesday afternoon and evening
  • Wednesday afternoon and evening
  • Tuesday and Wednesday evenings only
  • Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons only


The major modules of study are:

Semester 3 and 4

1. Employee Relations

2. Employee Reward

3. Learning and Development

4. People Resourcing

Students are required to attend a weekend residential in year 2, which is devoted to the development of skills in the above areas.

Career Opportunities

Successful students are recommended to the CIPD to be upgraded to Graduate Membership. In some cases it may be possible to upgrade their membership to Chartered Member Status where 3 years relevant prior experience can be demonstrated.

Students are encouraged to complete a further year and gain the MSc in Strategic Human Resources.

Assessment

Assessment is based on a combination of assignments and examination in each of the modules. There is also a requirement to complete a work-based project, which is assessed by viva voce examination.
