City and Guilds Horticulture NVQ 1Duration
One Year full time.

Attendance
You will be expected to attend our Bentley Training Centre site for two days a week plus a further half day at The Hub Site.

Course description
You will have the opportunity to gain a qualification Horticulture. You will spend two days a week at Bentley Training Centre, where after demonstrations from the tutor, you will complete practical tasks leading to the completion of timed assessments, A simple written portfolio of evidence also forms part of this qualification. You will attend sessions at The Hub in order to further develop your communication and practical numeracy skills. You will also be expected to attend a programme of personal development, which includes such things as researching the job market and making an application; developing team skills and personal effectiveness. This may be an opportunity to progress from the Fresh Start programme into a vocational programme.

Course Structure
The course includes preparing ground for planting. How to care for plants and seeds. Grass cutting and strimming. Laying hard standing and some block paving work. Also completion of Basic/Key Skills in Literacy and Numeracy.

Course Assessment
Portfolio of evidence for practical and theory course work. Good Attendance.

Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.

Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

On successful completion of this course you may progress to a full time level 3 programme or apprenticeship
