You will be expected to be available to attend college Monday to Friday 8.45am 5.30pm along with some evenings

Course Description
Working in the Realistic Working environment of the Waterfront Restaurant, as well this you will do five assignments as ell as a online practical test on Food Safety.

You will also do three practical tests throughout the year to test your culinary skills. On all elements of this course you can achieve Pass /Merit or Distinction.

Course Structure
This course will run alongside an NVQ level 1 Food Service qualification. Units covered include maintaining a safe & hygienic working environment, teamwork, customer care, maintaining food safety, preparing areas for table service, providing a table or tray service.

Course Assessment
Assessment for this qualification is achieved by practical assessments and written assignments as well as one online test.

Course Entry requirements
  • 2 GCSEs grades G and above
  • An entry level 3 in numeracy and literacy

  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview


Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.

A full Professional uniform is required for all students enrolling on this course.

Course Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

As part of the course a two week local or national work placement is undertaken along with trips and guest speakers from local hospitality outlets.

Course Progression
Following successful completion learners may progress onto the level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery.

Course Career Prospects
  • This qualification will provide opportunities to gain employment serving food and drink to customers in the hospitality industry in positions such as junior commis chef and trainee positions within hotels, cafes and restaurants.
