Aims:
This course covers automotive vehicle servicing and repair specialisms, including service and repair. It aims to provide knowledge and understanding for a career in Automotive Engineering. It provides an alternative study route for those who wish to gain a recognised qualification but who do not have access to studying an SVQ.

Duration:
1 year Full time August to June

Content:
The Course will consist of a selection of units at VRQ level 1, 2 or 3:
. Carry out Basic Routine Maintenance
. Carry out Light Vehicle Front Wheel Alignment
. Carry out Routine Vehicle Maintenance
. Contribute to Workplace Good Housekeeping
. Diagnose and Rectify Auxiliary Equipment Electrical Faults
. Diagnose & Rectify Vehicle Chassis Systems and Component Faults
. Diagnose & Rectify Vehicle Engine Systems and Component Faults
. Diagnose & Rectify Vehicle Transmission and Driveline System Faults
. Ensure Your Own Actions reduce Risks to Health and Safety
. Introduction to Vehicle Technology and Workshop Methods and
Processes
. Maintain Positive Working Relationships
. Remove and Replace Auxiliary Electrical Units and Components
. Remove and Replace Chassis Units and Components
. Remove and Replace Engine Units and Components
. Remove and Replace Vehicle Transmission and Driveline Units
and Components
The course is assessed by means of continual assessment of course
work, and online testing will take place throughout the course.

Articulation:
Successful students may progress to HNC Automotive Engineering,
offered as an evening class at Anniesland College.

Careers:
Previous students have gained employment in the Motor Vehicle sector. Alternatively it
may be used to help students to gain a Modern Apprenticeship
(MA) or to go on to Further Study.
