Construction Diploma Level 1 (Foundation) Plastering

Course Details

Correct handling and storage of resources and equipment commonly used in the plastering industry Forming good relationships as part of a team and how to work with other trades Communicating effectively with customers and suppliers Preparing plastering materials for use (mixing requirements) Preparing background surfaces to receive plaster products internally and externally Cutting components to required dimensions, plasterboard/angle beads. Fixing cut components to prepared backgrounds Applying backing and finishing coats Producing basic fibrous plaster components

Qualifications required:
GCSE grade A -G in Maths and English. An interest in plastering is essential as is punctuality. Full attendance is critical to achieve this award. Reasonable key skills are preferred. An initial assessment and interview may be carried out prior to an offer of a place. You may also require a satisfactory reference.

Course hours:
Under 19s - 17 hours per week. Over 19s - 15 hours per week.

Additional info:
Learners are required to provide their own safety footwear, overalls and all stationery requirements. Safety footwear must be worn in all workshops. We do not allow the use of safety trainers except in painting and decorating where this is appropriate.

Progression:
Successful completion of the Construction Diploma Level 1 (Foundation) will allow progression onto the Construction Diploma Level 2 (Intermediate) in plastering. This is a higher level course with a one year duration designed to prepare for employment as a plasterer and incorporates elements such as:
Fixing sheet materials
Applying internal and external plaster finishes onto various backgrounds
Laying floor screeds
Fibrous plastering manufacture cutting and fixing
Successful completion of the Construction Diploma Level 2 (Intermediate) will set the foundation for possible conversion to an NVQ trade qualification. This will only be possible after gaining employment within the industry.
