About this course
Four GCSEs at grade C or above, or Intermediate GNVQ or First
Diploma in Art.You will be required to submit a portfolio of work, which demonstrates commitment and enthusiasm for the subject.
Mature candidates without the necessary entry qualifications, but with a strong portfolio and evidence from initial assessment of ability to work at Level 3, will be considered.

Course Description:
This design course will give you the opportunity to explore and develop ideas and concepts, and experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques, in order
to gain expertise in all aspects of 3D design. You need to be highly motivated with an enquiring mind and will, as a result, acquire an extensive range of skills for both 2D and 3D design. The course will enable you to pursue a Degree, Foundation Degree,
HND or employment in the design industry.
Course Content:
· 3D experimentation using a variety of materials and processes
· 2D visual communication
· drawing
· illustration
· 2D and 3D computer-aided design
· contextual studies
· product design
· ceramic design
· photography
· surface design and printmaking.
Participation in 'live' projects commissioned by local businesses is an important feature of the course.
Assessment:
Continuous assessment throughout the course, together with portfolio presentations,
an externally-assessed final major project in year two and participation in an end of year exhibition.
Next Steps:
HND, Foundation Degree or Degree at university or related employment.
