What will I be learning?

The sport and active leisure industry is a fast moving, growing industry, and this new diploma course offers a very exciting opportunity to study using a blend of practical, vocational and work-based delivery.

How will I learn?

The diploma will develop the essential skills and knowledge needed for employment in the sport and active leisure or for further study in Higher Education.

The themes will be delivered through both practical and academic sessions, both individually and in groups. You will be taught through a mixture of lectures, seminars, demonstrations, practical sessions and a minimum of 10 days work experience. You will be involved in projects based on real life scenarios involving employers and customers.

What else might I want to know?

During practicals or whilst representing the College in the community you will be expected to wear appropriate physical education/sports kit; T-shirt or training top. A good standard of dress will be worn whilst taking part in practicals. You will also be required to purchase at least one course book/books to support your learning at College.

What can I do afterwards?

The qualification will prepare you for a Foundation Degree in Exercise Science at South Devon College or entry to Higher Education, where you can undertake a BSc degree in sports/exercise science, Bed/BA in PE/Sports Teacher.

Alternatively many of our students have been prepared with the pre-requisite qualifications for a career within the sports and leisure industries.

Entry Requirements
The diploma is based on three main themes, sport and active leisure and the individual, the economy and the community. You will learn about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and
strategies for increasing participation, and how to work with specific groups and customers within the industry. You will also complete
a number of specialist modules which may include coaching and leadership, sports medicine, youthwork, the outdoors, and sports event management.
