BTEC National Diploma in Art & Design - Games Art Level 3

Duration
Two years full time

Attendance
You are expected to be available to attend college Monday to Thursday 9am to 5.30pm and Friday 9am to 4.30pm. Your timetable will be for 16 hours per week and will be explained to you at interview.

Description
This course is designed for those students who are interested in Graphic Novels, Games & Animation. The course is based around illustration with some 3D Computer Modeling and Narrative Image Making. The two year programme has been created to enhance your creative and technical ability for a successful career in illustration and concept art.

Structure
The course consists of 18 units; 5 of which are core units. Assignments are set to explore various themes and lead up to a Final Major Project at the end of the 2nd Year.

Assessment
Key/Functional skills are embedded throughout the course, you will be required to take an exam and/or complete a portfolio to achieve these. The course proper is assessed continuously with critiques at the end of each 5 or 6 week project.

Entry Requirements
  • 4-5 GCSEs grades A-C including English
  • First Diploma In Art and Design at merit
  • For equivalent qualifications see the Entry Requirements Explained page
  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
  • Relevant industrial experience.
  • All students will need to present a portfolio of art work at interview.


Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.

Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

Progression
Many students progress onto University degree level courses such as the FdA Animation and Illustration offered at Doncaster College

Career Prospects
Opportunities exist to enter the Creative Industries at a Junior Level but further study would be recommended to achieve employment in many job roles including storyboard artists, games designer, texture artists and character modellers.
