Course Details

The National Diploma in Photography is a practical work related course in which students are encouraged to develop their creative and technical skills to a high level. Units include studio photography, location photography, digital imaging, materials, techniques and processes and visual communication. All eighteen units are assessed and graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction. On this course you will be encouraged to develop your own specialist area of interest. A mandatory programme of visits to galleries, studios and field trips will develop an awareness of the industry, and visiting practitioners will give you an insight into contemporary professional practice. Key skills are also developed as part of this programme.

Qualifications required:
For this course applicants should normally have: a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade C or above plus a portfolio of art and/or design work. For mature applicants prior experience may be considered in lieu of academic qualifications.

This programme is normally studied full time over two years.

Additional info:
Advice on materials will be given at interview. A studio fee will be payable during induction week. Students accepted on this programme should own a digital camera (SLR).

Progression:
When you have successfully completed your photography course, you will be well equipped to enter Higher Education. Students who complete the National Diploma course will be guaranteed progression on to the Foundation Degree in Lens Based Photo Media at the Hull School of Art and Design.
