The aim is to introduce the new engineer to the strategy that will provide them with a route to the HND or Foundation Degree qualification. The aim at the end of this route is to produce a highly qualified and knowledgeable engineer to meet the requirements for a multi-skilled engineer who can maintain and improve the many different systems used in industry.

What will I learn?
The course is a combination of theoretical and practical work being delivered in an appropriate manner of traditional lessons and practical workshop sessions. To obtain the EDEXCEL ND award each student must complete 17 modules. The modules delivered are as follows: Core Modules: (compulsory) Business Systems for Technicians, Communications for Technicians, Mathematics for Technicians, Engineering Project (double unit), Electrical & Electronic Principles. Specialist Modules: The remaining modules required to obtain the qualification are taken from the following wide range of topic areas: Analogue & Digital Electronics, Microelectronics, Further Electrical Principles, PC specification & Maintenance, Principles of Software Design & Development, Electronic Measurement & Testing, Programmable Controllers, Engineering Drawing, Engineering Design, Further Mathematics, Electrical Installation, Health, Safety, Risk Assessment & Welfare and others

How will I be assessed?
The assessment method is via a mix of continuous assessment such as assignments / workbooks and practical projects and formal test papers. The college endeavours to place all full time learners with a local engineering employer for at least one week during the second year of the programme. This can extend up to two weeks in certain circumstances.

What can I do after the course?
Successful students will be able to go into engineering employment at the technician level in the public and private sectors in industries such as Electronic Design Engineering, Electronic Manufacturing, Control Systems and automated engineering.
