Summary
The BTEC First Diploma in Engineering (Maintenance) is a full time course which is designed to give a broad base from which you can progress to a number of possible advanced courses in the field of Engineering. It is a good general introduction to engineering and provides the basic skills required for progression to a wide range of trades and professions.

Entry to the National Diploma, work or a recognised apprenticeship is possible following successful completion and achievement of appropriate grades.

Modules
8 units will be studied, to include: Working Practices in Engineering Using and Interpreting Information Applied Electrical/Mechanical Science for Technicians Mathematics for Engineering Technicians Using Computer Aided Drawing Techniques Mechanical Maintenance Fundamentals Electrical Maintenance Fundamentals Electronic Circuit Construction and Testing

Entry Requirements
Usual entry requirements are 4 GCSEs at Grade D/E or above, but this course offers flexibility on entry depending on the outcome of a personal interview with the Course Director.

Course Content
The course aims to give students a wide ranging knowledge of several aspects of Engineering and the skills required for a range of jobs. You will also have the opportunity to achieve a key skills award. There may also be the opportunity to study with an Adult Education class to help you achieve GCSE Maths or English throughout the year. This is strongly recommended if you wish to progress to the BTEC National Diploma or need to take the National Certificate as part of an Apprenticeship the following year.
