Course Description
This subject studies the type of English language used in a wide range of spoken and written situations, from fanzines to travel writing and from student conversations to Shakespeare. You will use the insights gained from literary and linguistic studies to analyse and compare the ways in which other writers and speakers use language, and to create original and effective texts of your own.
Course Content AS Level
- Module 1: Study of a collection of short spoken and written texts on 'Travel, Transport and Locomotion'.
- Module 2: Study of two novels and production of creative writing
- Module 3: 'Talk in Life and Literature' exploring real life spoken situations as well as speech in drama
- Module 4: Study of two more literary texts and production of original writing Method of Assessment Examination and coursework
