Course Description
In AS/A level English Literature you will study a wide range of books and short texts including novels, plays and poetry. You will look at the ways that authors use language to build characters and explore themes, and you will learn about different approaches to reading literature and will consider questions like: 'Is there a right way and a wrong way to understand a novel or poem, or is it all a matter of opinion?'. You will have the opportunity to produce original writing as part of your AS coursework.
Course Content AS Level
- Module 1: A study of poetry and prose from 1800-1945
- Module 2: Coursework based on a selection of post-1900 texts
- Module 3: Study of drama and poetry pre-1800
- Module 4: Coursework based study of texts from at least two genres (prose, poetry, drama) within the same or different time period Method of Assessment Examination and coursework.
