Course Description:
The course is designed for people who want to train for a career with horses or a related subject, who have experience with horses.

The course is an advanced course and contributes towards the underpinning knowledge of the NVQ in Horse Management Level 3 and the BHS Stage 3 in Horse Knowledge and Riding.

The course will introduce you to the reproduction of horses, anatomy and physiology, fattening and nutrition, event management and supervision, ground schooling, exercising to maintain fitness, grassland management, and equine coaching, and:

Units will cover:

· Animal Science and Reproduction
· Animal enterprise and management and supervision
· Project in land based sector

With optional units to include

· Equestrian teaching and conformation and lameness.

Assessment and Progression:
There will be coursework and an examination paper which is sat in the summer term.

It is an 'A' level equivalent programme which can lead to Higher Education. Students also progress to BHS Stage 3 in Horse Knowledge and Riding or NVQ in Horse Management Level 3, but can progress to employment in the horse industry.

Duration:
12.5 hours per week / 2 days per week over 1 year.
