This programme is ideally suited to developing a career as a textile designer-maker, and integrates specialist textile skills with the knowledge required to take ideas through to marketable products. It provides a realistic experience of initiating and maintaining a viable enterprise with own emphasis on the quality of making.

You will develop and extend your technical expertise, and explore your own creative and professional practice as a designer-maker through live project work, work experience and participation in contemporary craft trade shows.

Level 1 modules: Visual Language, Textile Techniques, Work-Related Learning/Projects, Introductory Professional Studies, Introductory Contextual Studies

Level 2 modules: Advanced Textile Techniques, Negotiated Project, Work-Related Learning/Final Project, Professional Studies, Contextual Studies

The College provides excellent studios, workshops and resources. You will be supported and guided by a team of professional academic and technical staff. Traditional workshop areas are complemented by computer-aided design and textile digital printing.

What new skills will I aquire?
You will be able to establish your own creative identity in the realisation and presentation of products for the contemporary textile craft market, underpinned by the awareness of professional practice, including costing, marketing and selling your work. You will develop skills in a variety of textile techniques including fabric dyeing, textile printing, hand and machine embroidery, felt-making, handknitting and crochet. The design process will be initiated through drawing and image generation, and supported by an understanding of contextual issues and design history.
