About this course

You must be at least 16 years of age on starting the course. You will normally need to have at least one of the following: A BTEC Foundation Certificate in a related subject; Art GCSE at A*-C plus a standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades D-E; Related work experience or other related level 1 or 2 qualifications. You will be invited to attend an interview with your artwork.

It is a practical course supported by a study of historical & contemporary art and design. You learn by completing projects and assignments that encourage you to experiment and explore different techniques and processes. It provides a good basis to progress to more advanced work-related qualification?s. The course provides a broad based approach to the art & design sector, giving you the opportunity to acquire and develop visual communication skills and techniques using a wide range of media and materials.

What will I study?
The course introduces drawing and painting skills and working in an experimental way with a range of media and techniques in both 2 & 3 dimensions. You will gain an excellent grounding in traditional techniques as well as computer technology. You will be encouraged to explore and develop art and design ideas and produce effective outcomes.

How will I be assessed?
All units are internally assessed and externally moderated, and on successful completion of the qualification an overall grade of pass, merit, or distinction is awarded.
