Fresh Start - City and Guilds Employability Skills and Personal DevelopmentDuration
12 week introductory programme followed by 15 week programme

Attendance
Courses are flexible, but everyone will attend for at least 12 hours a week between Monday to Thursday 9am to 5.30pm and Friday 9am to 4.30pm.

Course description
This is an exciting programme designed for people who are not sure what they want to do next and would like to see what college has to offer

Course Structure
This course offers a wide range of opportunities, including the chance to improve your basic skills, and gain employability skills. Also offered are a range of exciting vocational options for you to try out different activities, and sport, educational trips and residential visits

Course Assessment
Assessment is based on your individual learning plan and you will create a portfolio of work to prepare for City and Guilds accreditation. Basic Skills will be assessed either on-line, or by an end of course assignment to gain a City and Guilds qualification in Literacy or Numeracy

Course Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. You will complete an initial assessment and have an interview with one of our tutors who will talk to you about the sorts of options you would want to try in college.

Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.

Course Enrichment
Activities such as trips and visits will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

You will be able to join the enrichment programme in college which offers students opportunities to broaden their experience if they wish.

Course Progression
Fresh Start is designed to give you the basics for progressing to a course of your choice in the following year. Basic skills are an important part of our course because you need good literacy and numeracy skills to be accepted on vocational programmes. Your tutors will discuss your progression opportunities with you.
