This 1-year course offers you the opportunity to study a Foundation Computing course from both theoretical and practical applications. You will gain the knowledge and experience required to enable you to use Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Database and Power Point packages and investigate simple computer set-up and maintenance procedures. Opportunities exist to use the Internet & become familiar with digital peripheral devices such as printers, scanners & the digital camera. Alongside this course you will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate, which is equivalent to 1 A level. Due to the structure of this course, on completion you will leave the College with 2 qualifications equivalent to 3 A-Levels, greatly enhancing your future opportunities.

What will I study?
You will study a set of fifteen units mostly at Level I, which provide a broad background & introduction into the world of computing. You will be familiarised with popular Microsoft packages such as ?Word?, ?Excel?, ?PowerPoint? & ?Access?, as well as being trained to set-up computers and their peripheral devices. Basic Skills Support in literacy & numeracy is available to suit individual needs. You will also have the opportunity to study Key Skills at an appropriate level in Communication, Application of Number & ICT. For the Welsh Baccalaureate you will explore a wide range of areas including how Wales ?fits in? with Europe and the rest of the world, the health of the nation and how to be enterprising.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed in all units by completing set assignments, short reports and project work. You will also be expected to maintain your course files and all portfolios to the required standards.
Career Opportunities & Progression
After successful completion of this course you have the opportunity to progress onto a level II computing programme such as the First Diploma for IT Practitioners.
