Course Description:
MK6, the Sixth Form Centre, offers a range of courses for students typically aged between 16-19 years. This includes an extensive choice of subjects at GCSE and A Level, as well as vocational courses in Leisure, Travel, Performing Arts and Floristry.
Our learners can access the wide range of facilities and activities offered to all college students and benefit from working in a more adult environment. At the same time, we have our own distinct identity within the College and are able to provide the pastoral
support and friendly atmosphere that you would expect from a sixth form.
Come along to our open evenings and taster sessions where you can find out more about the subjects we offer and meet staff and current students. We look forward to meeting you.
AS & A2 Level Qualifications:
If you are over the age of 16 and wish to study a combination of AS/A2 qualifications, this course of study is suitable for you. You will be expected to attend a full programme of classes, which will mean between 19 and 24 class hours each week, plus regular
study in your own time in order to support and extend your work in class. A full tutorial programme and study workshops are essential components of this course. These will help you to develop your life skills, study skills and IT skills, and will support you in your next step either to university or work.
Assessment:
This is mainly through external examinations and will involve AS Level examinations during your first year. Some subjects also entail assessment of coursework in the first and second years.
Next Steps:
Higher Education or employment. For adults and improvers, it may be possible to 'fast track' to an A Level qualification, studying for both AS and A2 Level concurrently. This is an extremely challenging mode of study and is only recommended in exceptional circumstances.
Duration: 1 year
GCSE Re-sit Programme
This is a programme of study available to those who wish to improve their GCSE results.

Strict admissions criteria apply for those intent on re-sitting their GCSEs to ensure that those undertaking this course can benefit from doing so. A minimum of four GCSEs at grade D are required, which should include English and maths if you wish to re-sit these
subjects. Assessment tests are also carried out before or at your interview and you will need to achieve or be capable of working towards a Level 2 in either or both Application of Number and Communication. Subjects offered include: business studies, science,
English, law, mathematics, psychology and sociology.
