Government and Politics AS/A2
Government and Politics A Level offers you the chance to engage with a wide range of issues that affect us all every day. You will look at the way decisions made by governments influence people's lives,and the way that people seek to influence Government.

What will I study?
In the first year you will study our role as citizens in the democratic process. This will involve considering the name of democracy and learning about the role of elections, pressure groups and political partners. You will investigate the powers of the Prime Minister, Cabinet and the Houses of Parliament in the political process. You will also examine how Britain's membership fo the EU has affected British politics.

In the second year you will focus on the main ideas that have shaped British politics: Liberalism, Conservatism and Socialism, as well as other viewpoints such as Anarchism, Fascism and Feminism. You will also study the development of British politics and assess the impact of Thatcherism and New Labour.

How will I be assessed?
AS: 2 written examinations.

A2: 2 written examinations.

What can I do next?
As well as offering you insights into the ways in which the British political system works, A Level Politics will help you to develop an enquiring and critical mind. A Level Politics provides an excellent background for careers in law, journalism, the caring professions, teaching, and a range of management and business areas.
