Government and Politics

Why choose Government and Politics?
Politics may be a new subject for you to study, but it arises out of a basic feature of human social life: the fact of differing interests and viewpoints. Politics is the way a society or a group manages conflict and disagreement.

Key Features of Government and Politics at Hills Road:
· The main skills the course develops are research and written communication. A balanced handling of political questions will be encouraged.
· The course will develop an interest in citizenship and an up-to-date knowledge of current affairs.
· The subject is taught in purpose-built accommodation with excellent IT and library resources.
· Politics students visit the institutions of local and central government, while visits to the College from politicians and speakers on political matters will continue to be encouraged.
· The Department has organised nine successful trips to Washington DC to study the US political system, and intends to take students there in the future. We have also undertaken a visit to a conference in Paris on the workings of the European Union.
· Students have achieved excellent A Level results. In 2006 two of our students won an award for being placed in the top ten students nationally.
· Politics students go on to study a wide variety of subjects at University, including PPE, Law, Journalism, as well as allied academic subjects.
