There are twelve units of study over two years. These include subjects such as marketing, holiday representatives, visitor attractions and customer service. There is also a work experience component. All students will study IATA Level One: Airfares and Ticketing which is a unit on the course but will allow students to gain an extra qualification recognised by the industry. Students will also get the opportunity to gain an NVQ in Spanish in the first year of the course.

About this course

Students visit a range of industries to give them the opportunity to apply theory in practical settings. These may include: visits to hotels, exhibitions, visitor attractions and airlines. We also have regular guest speakers in who update us on changes and developments in the industry.

Hospitality, Travel and Tourism: BTEC National Certificate
This course is designed to provide a specialist work-related qualification in a range of sectors. It offers an engaging programme for those who are clear about the area of employment that they wish to enter. It is equivalent to two A levels.

Course details
There are twelve units of study over two years. These include subjects such as marketing, holiday representatives, visitor attractions and customer service. There is also a work experience component.

All students will study IATA Level One: Airfares and Ticketing which is a unit on the course but will allow students to gain an extra qualification recognised by the industry.

Students will also get the opportunity to gain an NVQ in Spanish in the first year of the course.

How is it assessed?
Each unit is assessed based on a range of specific outcomes. All units are assignment based. Work placements are assessed via supervisor reports and by your achievement of a level of professional competence whilst on placement.

Course duration
Two years full-time.

What do I need to study this subject?
You should have five GCSE grades A*-C including English Language or Merit at level 2, and a good record of attendance and punctuality.

Where can this lead me?
The course can lead to employment in related industries or higher education, such as a degree course in tourism management, or related courses.

What are the enrichment opportunities?
There are work experience placement opportunities and visits to a range of sectors including hotels, airlines and theme parks. Students can also participate on a residential study experience. A valid passport is required to attend the residential visit. In the final year of the BTEC National Certificate students will have the opportunity to gain a Cabin Crew qualification.
