About this course

Students need to be at Level 2 in terms of their practical IT skills and will also need to have a general understanding of how IT is used in business and the world around us.

Students also need to be familiar with spreadsheets, word processing and PowerPoint.

Information and Communication Technology [ICT] A Level (Level 3)
Course Content
The study of Information Communication Technology, Systems and Management with a greater emphasis on the application of IT to the business and commerical world.
Out of the three modules students will study for both AS and A2, two will be theoretical e.g. Input devices, Ouput devices, IT Legislation.
Students will spend approximately a third of their class time working in a spreadsheet package in the AS year and a database package in the A2 year.
This course is equivalent to 40-120 UCAS points.
Teaching/Assessment
The syllabus comprises of six modules, there core modules which must be studied for an AS Level qualification, and these, together with the three extension modules, must be studied for an A Level qualification.
Other packages such as DTP, Business Presentation and Word Processers will be used during the course, these will not be formally assessed.
Students will be given two exams for each AS and A2 which accounts for 30% of the overall subject mark. The remaining 40% comes from the compulsory coursework element
Progression
The majority of students go onto study at University.
IT graduates are highly sought after and there are excellent career opportunities widely available.
Additional Information
There are certain textbooks which students can buy to assist them but they are not essential.
Also the use of a home PC would be helpful but not essential.
