You may progress to this course having successfully completed the higher diploma (Level 2).

Course content
This course is designed to develop candidates knowledge and understanding of the Information and Communication Technology sector. You will gain the skills you need for a successful career in this area.
Seven Principal Learning units will be delivered throughout the year:
Unit 1: The Potential of Technology
Unit 2: Understanding Organisations
Unit 3: Professional Development
Unit 4: Creating Technology Solutions
Unit 5: Managing Technology Systems
Unit 6: Multimedia and Digital Projects
Unit 7: Making Projects Successful
In addition to this, you will need to:
Undertake an IT extended project for a real business.
Pass Functional Skills for Maths, English and ICT.
Take a specialist learning unit.
Undertake at least 10 days Work Experience in a business environment.
Candidates MUST pass all elements of this course to gain the Diploma qualification
Who Is The Course For?
The Diploma is an exciting qualification that will challenge and stretch you as a learner, whether you are preparing for university or employment. It offers a mix of theoretical and applied learning, including functional English, maths and ICT, and the opportunity to develop a speciality or take on complementary study. The Diploma will give you as a learner first-hand experience and insight into the world of work by providing opportunities to take part in a practical real world environment.

How Will I Be Assessed?
All units are centre-assessed and externally moderated by EDEXCEL with the exception of Unit 2, the assessment will be a 90 minute written examination and Unit 7 where the assessment will be a two hour written examination. Candidates must complete units to deadlines set by the subject tutors. The units from this qualification are graded on a six-grade scale.

What Could I Do Next?
Successful completion of this course is equivalent to three and a half A levels. You could go on to study at degree level or another appropriate higher education programme or seek employment in an IT related industry.

Are There Any Special Expenses?
A printing allowance will be given to each student which should cover the cost of printing homework. Students are expected to pay for any additional printing. A memory stick is an advisable extra and can be purchased from the Colleges stationery shop.
