Course Summary:
The full-time IT Work Introductory Diploma at Nescot is a practical, 1-year programme, taught in the context of real jobs and careers in this sector. The course will encourage you to develop the personal skills and qualities you need for work, learning and to help you achieve your full potential. You will have the chance to explore the opportunities offered in this exciting sector and to acquire appropriate vocational skills. It is suitable for learners who have no formal qualifications.

Course Details:
The course comprises a package of vocational and functional skills qualifications. The Introductory Diploma is an eight unit full time qualification. Study time will also be timetabled to develop skills in communication and application of number alongside any study support required to meet the individual needs of the learner. If you are unable to pass all eight units, an Introductory Certificate will be awarded for 4 units passed.

Teaching and Learning Methods:
Various teaching and learning methods will be used in the classroom to ensure your learning experience is positive and rewarding. Classroom activities may involve group work, peer assessment, role play, discussion, written work and assignment work. External visits may be organised as appropriate to complement the programme of activities in the classroom.

Modules:
The course is made up of eight units: three core units, which everyone takes, two compulsory Personal Skills units and three optional units. The optional units enable you to study particular areas in more depth.

- Working in the IT industry#
- Developing skills in IT

2 Personal Skills units:
- Personal effectiveness
- Financial Management

3 optional units:
- PC systems
- Using the internet
- IT applications.

Career Progression:
On successful completion of the course you will be able to progress to a range of programmes at level 1or level 2 or into employment.

Other Information:
All units are assessed by coursework except those marked # which are assessed by projects set by the exam board and marked externally. Associated Costs: There will be one visit during the course costing approximately 20.
