No formal qualifications are necessary however; good communication skills and a genuine interest in working with children are desirable.

Course Content
This Level 1 Diploma in Childcare consists of units that are completed during the year. Examples of some of the topics covered are: Caring For Your Child Intellectual Development Caring For Your Baby Understanding the Importance of Play Using Craft Activities with Children

If you are accepted onto this course without a Grade C or above in Maths and/or English you will be required to complete the relevant Essential Skills qualification. This will be a compulsory part of your timetable.

Special Features
Experiencing working with children is an important aspect of the course. Students will have the opportunity to spend 4 weeks throughout the course in a two different childcare settings. Educational visits and guest speakers are an important aspect of the course and these help relate the theory learnt in class to practice.
Assessment Methods
A variety of assessment methods are used in order to complete the course, this includes project work, reports and practical activities including: Work Based Assessment Reflective Accounts Displays Activity Plans Portfolio Building
Achievements/Qualifications
Level 1 Diploma in Childcare.
Progression Routes
Students who successfully complete this qualification progress to a related level 2 qualification such as the Certificate in Childcare and Education or Level 2 Children's Care, Learning and Development.
