Fee Information: The College charges a range of fees, primarily Home and Overseas. Under 19s assessed as Home, do not pay the course fees, we only charge a 20 enrolment fee which is refunded if you complete the course. Home students over 19 undertaking their First Full Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSE A-C) or their First Full Level 3 (equivalent to BTEC National or 2 ALevels) will be charged 20 enrolment fee plus any examination fees. For Home students over 19 receiving certain state benefits, the 20 enrolment is charged and not refundable. In all other instances, you will be charged the Home-EU or Overseas Fee.

A professional appearance is of paramount importance when working in the Beauty Salon. A high standard of personal grooming is required with the correct uniform, hair neat and tidy and nails must not extend beyond fingertips and be unpolished. No nails or jewellery.

You will be required to purchase a kit and uniform for this course details will be available at interview.
About the course:
This is a full time 1 year course. The course combines learning through practical skills and theoretical understanding of the techniques being used. The course contains a range of units with extra English support being given throughout the year.
This programme is very popular with all students as we have experienced industry trained professional in addition to well equipped salons. To ensure that students have the knowledge of the subjects students are supported with our interactive learning web which has been specially designed to make studying easier and more exciting. Logging on, you will find a wealth of information about hairdressing topics aimed at helping you to make the best use of your time in and out of college. Students are able to access study guides, notes, demonstrations, timetable information and have their own email addresses.
The College Learning Centres have an excellent range of facilities and provide all the information needed for studying this qualification. There is a mix of traditional learning facilities such as books, videos, magazines and newspapers as well as access to a wide range of on-line resources. Each Learning Centre has facilities for groups work as well as quiet study areas.
The College offers first-class tutorial and welfare services to provide support and guidance whenever it is needed.

NVQs are work related qualifications. They reflect the skills and knowledge needed to do a job effectively and show that a candidate is competent in the units that they have achieved.

COURSE DETAILS
Mode of attendance - 3 days a week 9.30-4
The subjects taught are:
  • Facials - Improve and maintain facials skin conditions and deliver
  • Provide Manicure and Pedicure treatments
  • Eye Care - Provide eyelash and eyebrow treatments
  • Waxing - Remove hair using waxing techniques
  • Make-up - Provide make-up treatments, day wear and night wear
  • Retail Health and Safety
  • Client and Customer Care
  • Work Placements in a Salon
The practical work takes place in the College†s five purpose built beauty salons which provides a realistic working environment as treatments are performed on paying clients. There are guest lecturers and the opportunity to train using Dermologica products as well as other renowned industry products.

Assessment:
The course is continually assessed using a variety of methods, practical observations, oral questions and written assessments. The completion of a work book is of paramount importance.

After the course:
Successful students can progress on to a Level 3 programme in Beauty Therapy or may wish to move into Level 3 Holistic Therapies. There is also the progression into employment (Beauty Therapist) in salons, health farms, day spas, television, theatre or film industry, cruise liners or airlines.
