Mathematics - AS & A Level
This challenging course is both rewarding and useful! You will study units of pure mathematics which involve understanding new ideas in algebra, trigonometry, Cartesian geometry and calculus. You will be able to choose Pure Mathematics and Mechanics (which involves the use of mathematics to solve physics problems relating to dynamics and the effects of forces) or Pure Mathematics and Statistics (which involves using mathematics to solve problems relating to data manipulation and probability). Suitable students will have opportunities to gain a Further Mathematics qualification.

What will I study?


Will I have to sit any examinations?
All students will sit 3 unit external examinations at the end of the year but there is no requirement to undertake coursework.

What will I have at the end of the course?
On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded an AS certificate in Mathematics. You can study the subject for another year and gain an A level qualification. There is also a Further Mathematics qualification for suitable students.

What next?
You will then be able to pursue a degree course in mathematics, science, engineering, computer science or business and commerce. The skills learnt on the AS/A2 course in Mathematics will be useful whilst studying any other degree course. AS/A2 Mathematics will also be useful if you are contemplating a career in any field, but in particular accountancy, engineering, research, education and statistics. Anything is possible!
