To study Further Mathematics you will in fact study AS and A2 Mathematics in your first year, you will then study AS and A2 Further Mathematics in your second year. You will have the option of just taking AS Further Mathematics in the second year.

AS well as as allowing you to study Mathematics in more depth, Further Mathematics gives you a much broader mathematical background ensuring you are highly employable in all mathematical fields.

What will I study?
Year 1: You will study four pure Mathematics modules and two applied modules in the first year. The pure modules develop the Algebra skills that you met at GCSE much further and introduce Calculus. The applied modules greatly expand upon the Data Handling topics from GCSE.

Year 2: There are three modules of Further Pure Mathematics. The ideas that you met at A level are brought together using Complex Numgers giving any powerful Mathematical tools to solve problems that cannot be solved in the Real Numgers.

You will also study four applied moduels. These develop the mathematics used to model the physics of motion and forces and to model and solve problems that arise in Computing, Business and Economics.

How will I be assessed?
Year 1: 6 written examinations.

Year 2: 6 written examinations.

Further Mathematics is very desirable for degree level courses in Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Medicine, Dentistry, Computing, Finance, Economics and other Mathematics based subjects.
