Course Description
The course gives an all round basic training in a wide range of engineering skills and leads to an NVQ at Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations. The student will also acquire a further education qualification

How is the Qualification Achieved ?
Continuous assessment together with project work, assignments and end tests

On Successful Completion of this Course
The qualification is the foundation element of the Modern Apprenticeship Framework. The remainder of the framework will be achieved through work based NVQs, further education qualifications and key skills

Additional Information
The course includes (Subjects Studied):
Mandatory Units. (All three)
Working safely in an engineering environment. Developing yourself and working with other people on engineering activities. Using and communicating technical information.
Support Units. (one of both)
Identifying and selecting engineering materials. Marking out for Engineering activities.
Practical Units. (Two or more)
Fitting using hand skills. Machining engineeering materials. Producing sheet metal components. Joining materials by welding. Wiring and testing electrical circuits. Building and testing electronic circuits.

Additional Units. (Optional by arrangement)
Maintaining mechanical devices and systems. Using computer software packages to assist with engineering activities.
