Media Production BTEC National Diploma
This practical course will appeal to you if you want to find out about the working practices involved in the moving image area of media production. You will take part in planning, researching, shooting and editing video productions, and build up a portfolio of work. The course is particularly well suited to students who are keen to follow a media-related route in Higher Education.

You will have access to a wide range of specialist equipment and build up your own skills in operating cameras and edit equipment.

What will I study?
Throughout the course you will build up your skills and knowledge in practical production covering areas such as film-making, image and sound editing, camera operation and multimedia. You will also study the theory and analysis of media texts.

You will take 5 core units:
  • Research Techniques for the Media Industries
  • Pre-Production Techniques for the Media Industries
  • Production Management Project
  • Working to a Brief in the Media Industries
  • Critical Approaches to Media Products

You will also take one specialist unit and a further 12 units which could include the following:
  • Understanding the Media
  • Film and Video Editing Techniques
  • Single Camera Techniques
  • Factual Programme Production Techniques
  • Corporate and Promotional Programme Production
  • Music Video Production
  • Advertisement Production for Television

Further specialist units from a list including:
  • Film studies
  • Multi-Camera Techniques
  • Understanding Video Technology
  • Writing for Television and Video
  • Social Action and community media production

You will be assessed through a variety of practical projects and assignments.

What can I do next?
There are many media courses available in higher education. Some are quite broad but others are very specific. You may wish to go on to study film and TV production, marketing or journalism at a higher level.
