Students will cover the following subjects:

- Maintain food safety
- Positive impression of yourself
- Provide counter /takeaway service
- Simple bread and dough products
- Meat and poultry
- Pasta
- Fish
- Vegetables
Practical classes take place in our training and production kitchens and you will also work in the Colleges Gallery restaurant facilities, giving you the opportunity to work with the general public. Learning support is built into this course and is determined by your own needs.

Entry Process:
All applicants will be invited to an interview with the tutor, allowing you to find out more and check that the course is the best option for you. Interviews normally take place between January and September of the year in which the course starts.
Assessment:
Assessments will take place in the college kitchens and restaurant. Candidates will be assessed using a diverse range of methods including questioning, project work, role-play and evidence from practical work. There are no formal examinations to test understanding of unit input.
Progression Routes:
Successful students can progress to the Intermediate Diploma in Catering & Hospitality.
Career Options:
Employment in a variety of positions at a junior level such as kitchen assistant or waiter/waitress.
