What will I be learning?

You will learn as you complete a period of work placement in an animal industry and study a range of animal related units including:
  • Animal science
  • Animal Housing
  • Animal Behaviour
  • Dog grooming
  • Wildlife and rehabilitation
  • Health and wellbeing


How will I learn?

The course comprises formal lectures, practical duties and workshops, discussions, visiting guest speakers and field trips.

Each unit is assessed by a series of practical and written assignments that have to be completed within set time periods. You will also study key skills to help improve your communication and interpersonal skills.

What else might I want to know?

As you will undertake duties you are advised to purchase a dustcoat / overalls and sensible footwear once you begin on the programme.

Your tutor may recommend textbooks that could prove useful during your studies.

What can I do afterwards?

On successful completion of the course you will be equipped with the skills to enter the industry at an intermediate level, possible jobs include:
  • Assistant dog groomer
  • Dog warden
  • Kennel / cattery assistant
  • Pet shop assistant
  • Trainee safari park / junior zoo keeper
  • Animal care assistant
