About the Course Please note that this course will change to a Level 3 Extended Diploma for September 2010, as part of the nationwide restructure to fit the new National Qualifications and Credit Framework. The content and academic level will be similar and details will be published as soon as they are available. Please use the current course title on your application form for the time being. This 18 module course is designed for students who wish to develop a comprehensive overview of the sports industry, with a specific focus on football and football coaching.

Psychology for Sports Performance - Focuses on the extent to which the human mind plays a role in performance.

Health and Safety in Sport - Health and Safety and its relevance in the working environment.

The Body in Action - Understanding how the body responds and adapts to exercise.
·
Sports Nutrition - Looks at the dietary requirements of sports people and allows suggestions for dietary modifications and nutrition strategies.

Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise - An introduction to the concept and practice of health screening and fitness testing.
·
Training and Fitness for Sport - Examines the concept and practice of fitness training and training programme design.
·
Sports Coaching - Looks at theoretical concepts and puts them into practice by planning, delivering and evaluating coaching sessions.
·
Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport - Looks at the technical skills and tactics demanded in football.
·
Sports Injuries - Develops skills in the identification, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries.
Year Two ·
Sport and Society - Explores current issues affecting sport in society including an historical and cultural basis.

Working with Children in Sport - Identifying the needs of children and then planning, preparing and leading activities for them.
·
Organising Sports Events - Explores the concepts, knowledge, skills and qualities needed to successfully lead a sports event.
·
Analysis of Sports Performance - Explores the performance demands of sport and how to analyse it.
·
Talent Identification and Development in Sport - Examines different predictors of talent and the ways of developing talent.
·
Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport - Looks at the rules of football and the roles and responsibilities of the officials.
·
Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise - Develops the knowledge, skills and understanding required to successfully plan, deliver and evaluate a range of exercise programmes.

The Athlete's Lifestyle - Examines aspects of the athletes' lifestyles, as well as duties that they will have to undertake as part of their professional role in sport, for example public appearances, media interviews and financial management.

Sport and Exercise Massage - Looks at the theory and practical knowledge necessary to study sport and exercise massage and how to perform a safe and effective massage treatment, which may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury.
