What will I be learning?

You must successfully complete all National Award Units to be invited to progress to the National Certificate

6. Uniform Public Service Employment

How will I learn?
You will complete all 18 units via a combination of lectures, personal research, talks and visits, residential and practical sessions, and you will engage with a large variety of Uniformed Public Services. For one unit you are required to participate in a week long expedition to a remote and wilderness environment.
This is an exciting, demanding and active course and full participation is expected from all students to enable you to gain the most from it.
What else might I want to know?
Public Service courses at South Devon College are uniformed and you will be required to wear uniform at all times.
Public Service courses are highly disciplined. High standards of behaviour, attendance and punctuality will be expected. There is a requirement to partake in the practical elements of the course and you will need to be prepared to fully participate in sports, water sports, outdoor activities, visits to uniformed public services and attend a week long expedition in a remote location as part of the course. You will be given more details of these activities and associated course costs during interview.
Physical Training and Adventure Sport play an important role in the structure of the course which is aimed at preparing you physically and mentally for entry in to your chosen Uniformed Public Service.
Although active and vocational this is an A level equivalent course with possible progression on to University and as such it has a considerable amount of classroom based learning. Approximately 60% of your learning is academic.
What can I do afterwards?
Successful completion of this course could lead you to progress directly into the public services, employment or Higher education.
