Course Details
The NVQ Level 2 provides first year initial training for an Apprenticeship in Engineering. The level 2 can be completed successfully in the College environment without the need for work based evidence. The NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations has the following units: Working Safely in an Engineering Environment Working Efficiently and Effectively in Engineering Using and Communicating Technical Information Producing Components using Hand Fitting Techniques Preparing and using lathes for turning operations Preparing and using milling machines Apprentices will be required to complete the following two units, and full time learners have the option of completing these two units: Wiring and testing electrical equipment and circuits Forming and assembling electrical cable enclosure and support systems. In addition to the NVQ, you will have the opportunity to complete an appropriate academic qualification.
Qualifications required:
4 GCSEs (grade D or above) including Maths and Modular Science or Physics, or NVQ Level 1. The course is ideally suited to those wishing to pursue an apprenticeship at craft or technician level. Mature learners will be favourably considered and may gain accreditation for previous learning and experience. All places may be subject to internal assessment at the start of the programme. This course is suitable for male and female learners with an interest in engineering. A satisfactory reference may also be required.

Progression:
Progression onto an Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering and study at NVQ Level 3 linked with City and Guilds/BTEC qualification at Hull College. Alternatively, you can progress to a National Diploma in Engineering although you will need good Mathematics and Science grades for this option.
